Living with Autism Podcasts: Early Intervention in Childcare with…
Treatment for children with autism can be intensive and isolating. A different approach in early intervention in child care has been introduced to create a more interactive and cost-effective environment for both children with autism and their families.
In this podcast, Dr Giacomo Vivanti talks to the Olga Tennison Autism Research Centre about how his style of therapy using the Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) is changing the way how children with autism are learning.
Using the ESDM framework, Dr Vivanti has launched a child care program at OTARC that integrate groups of children with autism in a proactive learning environment as an alternative intervention approach to therapist and child only programs.
Dr Vivanti’s program puts families first by being less expensive and sustainable in its resources,
“In using the resources that we have – including childcare programs – [we] address the needs of as [many] children with autism as possible. We’re not trying to make it cheap, we’re trying to make it accessible.”
