The new ‘Early Intervention for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder: Guidelines for Best Practice 2012′ [PDF 777KB] by Margot Prior and Jacqueline Roberts is now available from the FaHCSIA website. This booklet provides summary comments on research findings relating to early intervention for autism, research and evidence-based guidelines for best practice in early intervention, and a list of contacts for programs across Australia. It is an update of the guidelines published in 2006 by the same authors.
The International Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions (IACAPAP) has recently released a Declaration on Autism [PDF 33 KB]. IACAPAP is an international association of child and adolescent mental health professionals and academics. It advocates for the promotion of the mental health and development of children and adolescents through policy, information dissemination, training and research, and supports organisations devoted to this aim in all countries, with a specific emphasis on resource-poor regions of the world. On Saturday 15 February 2013 the Federal Government announced funding for a new Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Living with Autism Spectrum Disorders. The Olga Tennison Autism Research Centre is an essential participant in the CRC.
