Defining self-determination: A study about free choice
dfth
Do you freely make your own choices in life?
What gives you the ability to choose? What restricts your choices?
These are just a few of the questions that we are trying to answer in our study on self-determination. Self-determination is the ability to choose and to have those choices, rather than rewards, punishments, needs or any other pressures, be the driving force behind your actions.
What is this study about?
We are trying to determine which factors (e.g., circumstances, attitudes, feelings, beliefs) support the ability to choose actions based on your own interests and preferences rather than outside influences.
What will I have to do?
The study will ask you to complete an online survey three (3) times over several months. We are offering an incentive of $20 for the first round, and $10 for each of the second and third rounds (in the form of e-vouchers). Participating in all three rounds will take approximately 120 minutes of your time in total.
When will I have to do it?
The study will run between April 2024 and October 2024.
What kind of people are we looking for?
We need people who are:
- Neurotypical, neurodivergent, disabled, or able-bodied
- Fluent in reading and writing English
- Aged 18 or above
- Have a valid email address and
- Are able to complete surveys online.
